La BO d’un film qui débute par une séquence glaçante dans une salle de concert (Rainy night in Tallinn) et signée par un homme prénommé Ludwig ne peut qu’être que prometteuse ! Le Suédois Ludwig Göransson remplace Hans Zimmer (le collaborateur habituel de Christopher Nolan), pour ce thriller d’espionnage complexe. L’originalité du film vient du fait que les personnages peuvent aller et venir dans le temps pour mener leur mission à bien ou accomplir leurs méfaits, selon le camp dans lequel il se trouvent. Oscarisé pour Black Panther en 2019, Göransson a su mettre en valeur ce ballet cinématographique original grâce une artillerie sonore mélangeant boucles électroniques et orchestre symphonique. Dans certains passages, le compositeur épouse totalement le parti pris temporel du film en faisant jouer ses sons à l’endroit ou à l’envers, en fonction du point de vue de la caméra (Posterity). A l’occasion, un instrument soliste se détache de cette masse hypnotisante (le violoncelle fragile de From Mumbai to Amalfi, mettant en lumière, sans emphase, les images époustouflantes de la côte italienne). Les recherches sonores très poussées de Göransson n’ont ici qu’un but : donner encore plus d’épaisseur à ce spectacle à la fois esthétique et étrange. ©Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
