L’esprit était jazz, l’énergie plutôt rock, le feeling assez pop et le groove définitivement imparable. En 2012 avec Nothing For Granted, Sandra Nkaké proposait un alliage qui pouvait paraître forcé ou contre-nature mais ne l’était jamais. Disque porté par la liberté d’une voix qui s’immisçait dans chaque recoin de mélodies soul savamment travaillées, il mettait surtout en exergue un chant souvent rageur, dans les mots qu’elle lâchait, dans les cambrures suaves qu’elle offrait… Cinq ans plus tard, elle change son fusil d’épaule. Avec Tangerine Moon Wishes, celle qui est née au Cameroun et a grandi entre Paris et Yaoundé chante son déracinement de femme, noire, citoyenne qui aspire à la paix individuelle et collective. On entend dans son écriture et son choix de mots un équilibre parfait entre des chansons arty et l’énergie vocale qu’on lui connait, de l’intime à l’universel. Sandra Nkaké semble avoir trouvé ici un nouveau chemin dans un territoire musical vierge, qui n’appartient qu’à elle.
