Les Londoniens de Bear’s Den ont connu un grand succès suite à leur très réussi premier album Islands (2014). Et cet enthousiasme général s’est concrétisé par une tournée aux quatre coins du monde pendant pas moins de deux ans. C’est donc sur la route que Red Earth & Pouring Rain a été composé. Entre les concerts, les chambres d’hôtel, les trajets en bus ou en avion et les fans en furie. Si l’on s’accorde aux principaux membres du groupe, cela n’a pas été de tout repos (le guitariste a quitté la formation…) et c’est pourquoi cet opus dispose d’un côté sombre. Dans les extrêmes perpétuels imposés par le rythme d’une tournée, les relations que les musiciens entretiennent avec leurs proches ont parfois été mises à mal. Red Earth & Pouring Rain retrace toute ces histoires et est légèrement épicé. Dans une vague musicale très 80’s, la pop rock des Anglais est imprégnée de guitare et de néons violacés. Inspiré des peintures de Hopper ou encore du film Short Cuts, l’album donne parfois l’impression de voyager à travers une Amérique urbaine et froide que viennent renforcer les notes de synthétiseur. A la limite du contemplatif, la musique de Bear’s Den résonne comme dans une ville déserte (Love Can’t Stand Alone) où l’humanité continuerait de chercher un sens. © AR/Qobuz
