Sans doute la meilleure, en tout cas la plus mythique des trois collaborations d’Ella Fitzgerald et Louis Armstrong, Porgy and Bess est un morceau d’anthologie où l’œuvre de George Gershwin subit un traitement de choix par deux artistes d’exception.
Si « Summertime » est un morceau obligé, les autres titres ne sont pas en reste avec certains morceaux comme « Oh Doctor Jesus », dont on peut dire sans craindre l’hyperbole qu’ils atteignent le divin.
D’ailleurs, si l’on remplaçait Dieu par Ella Fitzgerald et Louis Armstrong, on ne remarquerait pas la différence.
