2017's Music for People in Trouble saw the spell-casting Norwegian singer/songwriter dial back on the icy ABBA-esque electro-pop of 2015's Ten Love Songs in favor of something far more personal, yet no less compelling. Inspired by the socio-political discord of the information age and a particularly intense time of soul searching, the ten-track set is built largely around Sundfor's powerful voice with accompaniments limited to mostly guitar, piano, and strings. Recorded in London in 2018, People in Trouble: Live from the Barbican breaks with the studio version's opening sequence by inverting the plaintive "Mantra" and the fractured musique concrète-inspired title cut. Other than that, the ten-track set is a near-mirror image of its predecessor, with Sundfor and her six-piece band administering some tasteful embellishments and delivering an intimate and emotional performance that bears the weight of the material with grace.
