Public Enemy pousse le jeu de mots dans le titre de l’album encore plus loin, empruntant cette fois-ci aux O’Jays.
L’album est par contre loin d’être à la hauteur, les ventes étant peu aidées par le changement administratif à la tête de Def Jam, le label passant des mains de Sony à PolyGram lors de sa sortie. Et ce malgré un bon single en la présence de « Give It Up », classique titre dans la forme du groupe, mais s‘en prenant cette fois-ci à l‘émergence de nouveaux courants dans le rap. Car l’année 1994 représente une nouvelle époque pour ce mouvement, avec l’apparition de nouvelles têtes, styles et inspirations, le Gangsta Gap en tête, et des nouvelles coqueluches du microphone qui n‘en ont un peu rien à faire des légendes passées. Même si l’éternel ton moralisateur pouvait encore surprendre à cette époque, il serait plus que bienvenu aujourd’hui pour apporter un peu d’équilibre dans une industrie du hip-hop qui ne permet plus de se démarquer des voies mercantiles.
Et qui mieux que Public Enemy, fidèles soldats du rap, pour l’apporter ?
