Herbert von Karajan et les grands maîtres du classique

Trente ans après sa mort, l’Autrichien Herbert von Karajan (Salzbourg 1908 - Anif 1989) incarne toujours la figure du chef d’orchestre. À la tête de l’orchestre philharmonique de Berlin, qu’il a élevé au rang de marque mondiale pendant presque trente-cinq ans (1955-1989), il a méthodiquement réenregistré le cœur de son répertoire : Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner, Verdi, Wagner, Strauss…

Danny Elfman en dix albums

Entre féerie et humour déjanté, grandiose et douceur bienveillante, Danny Elfman a bâti en près de quarante ans un style très personnel et bigarré, qu’il distille dans des productions hollywoodiennes éclectiques, signées notamment Tim Burton ou Gus Van Sant. À l’occasion d’un week-end qui lui est consacré à la Philharmonie de Paris, retour sur dix albums essentiels de sa discographie.

Julius Katchen, 50 nuances de Brahms

Si les pianistes de notre époque, toutes générations confondues, enregistrent la musique pour piano de Brahms à tour de doigts – surtout les derniers opus, 116 à 119, qui ont la cote –, il n’en a pas toujours été ainsi. Lorsque le pianiste américain Julius Katchen commence ses enregistrements brahmsiens en 1962, il signe pour Decca la toute première intégrale des œuvres pour clavier du compositeur allemand. Il sera suivi une dizaine d’années plus tard par celle de l’Allemand Peter Rösel, et, plus récemment, d’une douzaine de pianistes.
