Enregistré en fin de vie, ce disque de celle que Lester Young avait surnommée Lady Day sera son avant dernier. Beaucoup reprochèrent la voix un brin moins sûre, les arrangements empoulés de Ray Ellis noyés par les violons, etc. Mais avec le temps, ce disque a pris toute son ampleur et sa mesure. Un très bon enregistrement, une voix troublante au possible, un répertoire passé à la postérité, une émotion a fleur de peau, le disque est devenu un classique, peut-être le plus célèbre de la chanteuse. Certes, les arrangements sont mièvres, en complet contrepoint de l'émotion et de la gravité d'une Billie Holiday qui nous laisse ici un nouvel exemple d'une interprétation juste et intègre, sans fioriture ni cliché. Un classique vous dit-on !
