Depuis 2012, Karly-Marina Loaiza alias Kali Uchis s’est lancée dans une collection de featurings digne d’une poitrine de général soviétique recouverte de médailles... Aussi, le premier album de l’Américano-Colombienne ayant posé sa voix sur des titres de Snoop Dogg, Tyler, The Creator, GoldLink, Major Lazer, Kaytranada, Miguel, Vince Staples ou bien encore Gorillaz était plus qu’attendu. Surtout qu’avant cette sortie, Kali Uchis avait déjà réussi à tracer les contours de sa forte personnalité de nouvelle reine potentielle du R&B et de la soul. Une de plus ? Non, non, non. Une vraie de vraie avec un bel alliage de chant nu soul, de R&B 90's, de pop façon (early) Madonna voire de gouaille à la Amy Winehouse. Une voix qui bénéficie d’un éclectique écrin cinq étoiles sur ce premier album où l’on croise les proches comme Tyler et Damon Albarn mais aussi les Canadiens de BadBadNotGood, Kevin Parker de Tame Impala, David Sitek de TV On The Radio, l’allumé Thundercat, la soul sister Jorja Smith, les Dap-Kings, Steve Lacy de The Internet, son compatriote Reykon ou le funkster légendaire Bootsy Collins. Sur Isolation, la chanteuse installée à Los Angeles impose aussi ses racines hispaniques en chantant dans les deux langues et slalome entre nu soul, R&B, hip-hop, latin pop et reggaeton.
