Premier album de Wilson Pickett, ce Midnight Hour contient, outre le standard n°1 de l’artiste que constitue la chanson-titre, onze morceaux soul particulièrement bruts de décoffrage, dont les superbes « That’s a Man’s Way » et « I’m Gonna Cry ». Une bonne moitié de l’album est composée des chansons conçues lors de la période de collaboration avec Stax Records, filiale d’Atlantic et c’est un Pickett pré-Fame Studios, particulièrement rugueux et viril, que nous redécouvrons ici. De la soul énergique et tellurique.
