 -- @page { margin: 2cm } P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } --Cette compilation (et la bonne introduction que constituent ces trente chansons à l’œuvre du jovial francophone) a un mérite indubitable, et c’est bien de proposer, au côté des tubes incontournables que sont la langueur matoise de « Blueberry Hill », le sauvage déboulé de « The Fat Man », ou un « Ain’t That A Shame » qui doit bien davantage aux déhanchements du swing et du rhythm and blues qu’à la fièvre brutale du rock and roll, quelques sélections de série B, propices à rappeler une poignée d’évidence.

Tout d’abord, que Domino est un grand pianiste, parfait dans le rôle de décontraction rythmique qu’il s’est fixé à lui-même. Puis, que ces chansons de bouges et de culture cajun (« 
My Girl Josephine ») définissent à la perfection le chaînon manquant entre les groupes jump des années quarante (la victoire contre les Allemands de la seconde guerre mondiale en claquant des doigts), et la déferlante d’Elvis Presley, quelques années plus tard, sur la planète. Enfin, que les auteur et compositeur Dave Bartholomew et Fats Domino constituaient ces années-là une paire étincelante et triomphante.

L’année de sa sortie,
Greatest Hits : Walking Down To New Orleans se paiera même le luxe de se classer en neuvième position des classements de blues, ce qui prouve que la nostalgie reste ce qu’elle était.
