L’amour de Charlie Watts pour le jazz n’est pas un scoop. Ce qui est moins connu, c’est le séjour danois de quelques mois du batteur des Rolling Stones au début des années 60. Le groupe venait de voir le jour et n’avait pas encore rencontré le succès. Obligé de travailler à côté, Charlie Watts s’envola pour le Danemark où il resta quelque temps, fréquentant la scène jazz et blues locale… Quelques vies plus tard, revoilà le batteur des Cailloux au pays de la petite sirène pour un live à Copenhague avec le Danish Radio Big Band. Le groove sous toutes ses coutures domine ce disque enregistré en 2010 mêlant rhythm’n’blues, jazz sixties, rythmes africains et bossa-nova. Un album proposant notamment des reprises de Satisfaction, You Can't Always Get What You Want et Paint It Black des Stones. A la tête d’un big-band, en quintet ou en tentet, Charlie Watts s’était déjà essayé à toutes les configurations possibles mais force est de constater que ce live, pourvu de superbes arrangements, compte parmi ses plus belles réussites. ©CM/Qobuz
