Dirty South rapper Drama doesn't really have much to say on his debut album, which seems to be more about the beats anyway. The robotic structure of his production crew occasionally recalls the Miami bounce'n'bass of any number of forgotten stylists from the region, as well as the interchangeable hip-hoppers from Master P's No Limit stable. The drum machine is set pretty much on one groove throughout Causin' Drama, leaving the progression of the album in Drama's not-too-capable hands. The main problem is that the rapper doesn't have much style. He's all huffy and puffy like DMX on a sugar high one minute, then slides along the No Limit formula the next minute. He never hides his affinity for the South or the brand of hip-hop that it has generated, however. On his best cuts -- "Left, Right, Left" and "Double Time (Drama's Cadence)" -- he even manages to sneak in something approaching a signature sound. Ultimately, though, Drama doesn't cause anything more than a shrug of indifference.
