Voici réunis en 50 CD (2 volumes de 17 CD, 1 de 16) les enregistrements les plus emblématiques du Philharmonique de Berlin avec Deutsche Grammophon, en cent ans de collaboration ; le choix du contenu a été soumis au vote de 37 000 personnes invitées à sélectionner, sur une période de deux mois (de mars à mai 2013) vingt de leurs enregistrements préférés, avec pour seule contrainte l'équilibre chronologique. Ont été rassemblés ainsi 10 grands concertos, les grandes pages symphoniques, les œuvres chorales majeures, les chefs-d'œuvre du 20e siècle et les meilleurs moments de l'opéra. Entre la Cinquième de Beethoven par Arthur Nikisch en 1913 et le Strauss de Gustavo Dudamel enregistré en 2013, on retrouve tous les enregistrements studio de Wilhelm Furtwängler, 15 albums de Herbert von Karajan, 7 de Claudio Abbado, puis Leonard Bernstein, Pierre Boulez, Karl Böhm, Carlo-Maria Giulini, Ferenc Fricsay, Rafael Kubelik et bien d'autres ; côté solistes : Wilhelm Kempff, Geza Anda, Shura Cherkassky, Martha Argerich, Pierre Fournier, Mstislav Rostropovitch, Maurizio Pollini, Krystian Zimerman, et plus encore...

Voici réunis en 50 CD (2 volumes de 17 CD, 1 de 16) les enregistrements les plus emblématiques du Philharmonique de Berlin avec Deutsche Grammophon, en cent ans de collaboration ; le choix du contenu a été soumis au vote de 37 000 personnes invitées à sélectionner, sur une période de deux mois (de mars à mai 2013) vingt de leurs enregistrements préférés, avec pour seule contrainte l'équilibre chronologique. Ont été rassemblés ainsi 10 grands concertos, les grandes pages symphoniques, les œuvres chorales majeures, les chefs-d'œuvre du 20e siècle et les meilleurs moments de l'opéra. Entre la Cinquième de Beethoven par Arthur Nikisch en 1913 et le Strauss de Gustavo Dudamel enregistré en 2013, on retrouve tous les enregistrements studio de Wilhelm Furtwängler, 15 albums de Herbert von Karajan, 7 de Claudio Abbado, puis Leonard Bernstein, Pierre Boulez, Karl Böhm, Carlo-Maria Giulini, Ferenc Fricsay, Rafael Kubelik et bien d'autres ; côté solistes : Wilhelm Kempff, Geza Anda, Shura Cherkassky, Martha Argerich, Pierre Fournier, Mstislav Rostropovitch, Maurizio Pollini, Krystian Zimerman, et plus encore...

Wilhelm Kempff, le plus humain des pianistes

Artiste d’un autre temps, Wilhelm Kempff (1895-1991) croyait à l’inspiration : il était entré en musique comme on entre en religion, avec une ferveur respectueuse pour les vieux maîtres qu’il servait. Avec son toucher de velours, son sens du phrasé et sa diction de conteur, l’art de Wilhelm Kempff était celui d’un rêveur éveillé, mi-poète, mi-devin, dans une époque où l’expression du sentiment primait sur tout. Il a souvent enregistré à plusieurs reprises ses compositeurs préférés, en particulier son dieu Beethoven, avec lequel on l’a si souvent identifié, laissant trois intégrales des sonates au fur et à mesure de sa propre maturation et de l’évolution des techniques d’enregistrement.
