Troisième album de Maurane, Ami ou Ennemi est encore inscrit dans la période swinguante de la chanteuse belge, qui s’épanouit particulièrement dans des titres comme « Du mal » ou « Tu es parti », qui a parfois des accents gospel.
Le titre « Qui es-tu Marie-Jeanne ? » est un assez joli écho à son rôle de Starmania, mais le clou de l’album est bien évidemment la ballade « Sur un prélude de Bach », l’un des plus grands tubes de Maurane. Si l’accompagnement instrumental de certains morceaux a pu vieillir, l’album n’en est pas moins dans l’ensemble d’une très grande qualité et supporte aisément d’être réécouté.
