Leah Nobel

Leah Nobel had her hands in a number of different pies, channeling her glitzy pop inclinations into Hael, a project balanced by her tongue-in-cheek rap persona Lil Cheesecake. As a solo singer/songwriter, she fused these two sides together, making melodic, atmospheric music with a strong emphasis on storytelling. Nobel's sweet, airy voice delivers wry observations on human nature, with some stories collected first-hand: she conducted 100 interviews to gather material for her 2019 debut album, Running in Borrowed Shoes. Nobel's light, tuneful touch helped bring her to a wider audience in 2021 when "Beginning Middle End" was featured in the Netflix film To All the Boys: Always and Forever. A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Leah Nobel began her musical career by playing open-mike nights while attending Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism and French she relocated to Austin, Texas in the mid-2000s; she eventually settled in Nashville. Nobel released the EP Strangers Again in 2015, then launched Hael in 2016, the electro-pop project landing placements in prominent ad campaigns and television shows, including Grey's Anatomy and Lucifer. Hael found success -- and she continued with the venture over the years, releasing the mini-LP Mood Ring in 2020 -- but Nobel channeled creative energies toward her solo recordings. She released a series of singles beginning with 2016's "Christmas in My Hand" and running through "Strawberry Fields" and "Not Ready to Say Goodbye," both released in 2017. Running in Borrowed Shoes, her full-length debut album produced by Pete Stewart, appeared on Big Yellow Dog Music in 2019, the same year her hip-hop persona Lil Cheesecake released "Buy It" and "Cardio." Hael's Mood Ring arrived in 2020, as did the solo single "Last One to Know." Nobel's breakthrough came in early 2021, when "Beginning Middle End" garnered significant exposure after being used in a pivotal moment in the film To All the Boys: Always and Forever.
