Amélie Veille
The Canadian folk artist Amélie Veille was born on September 8, 1981, in Saint-Georges, Quebec. She began writing original songs as a teenager and won first place at the prestigious Festival de la chanson de Saint-Ambroise competition in 2001, just one month shy of her 20th birthday. Amélie Veille, her self-titled debut album, was released two years later in 2003. Produced by Marc Pérusse, the record became a hit amongst contemporary folk fans in Quebec and received a nomination for "Contemporary Folk Album of the Year" at the ADISQ Gala. It eventually earned gold status in Canada. One year after Amélie Veille's release, Veille won two awards at the Festival Pully Lavaux à l'heure du Québec, a Swiss festival honoring Francophone artists from Quebec. Her sophomore album, Un moment ma folie, was released in 2006, followed by Mon cœur pour te garder in 2012. The title track from Mon cœur pour te garder was nominated for "Most Popular Song of the Year" at the ADISQ Gala in 2013. Les moments parfaits and Nos possibles followed in 2016 and 2022, respectively, with both albums featuring a mix of original material and songs originally performed by French icons like Nicole Rieu and Gilbert Bécaud.
