Alice Boman

Singer/songwriter Alice Boman crafts gentle, melancholic atmospheres with lo-fi aesthetics. She began releasing music in 2013, making her full-length debut with the reverb-washed Dream On in 2020. Expanding instrumentation with accents like accordion, muted brass, and music box effects, the still intimate follow-up, The Space Between, appeared in 2022. A native of Malmö, Sweden, Boman grew up listening to her parents' record collection (including Bob Dylan, Nina Simone, and Joni Mitchell) and would play piano and sing while her father accompanied her on guitar. When she was older, she took music classes and formed a band with close friends, whose practice sessions included trying to play along with Paul and Linda McCartney's Ram. Boman began writing her own songs after leaving home in her late teens. While studying ceramics in Öland, she would play her songs for friends in the college dining room, and she participated in open mikes. She sent her first set of demos to a studio in Malmö with hopes of negotiating some time to record, and instead a staff member sent them to Adrian Recordings, which was granted permission to issue them as the EP Skisser in 2013. Boman followed her debut with EP II in 2014. Aside from the release of the track "Dreams" in 2017, she proceeded relatively quietly, occasionally appearing on television soundtracks like 13 Reasons Why and Suits while she worked on her first album. The fruits of her efforts, Dream On, was issued by Play It Again Sam in early 2020. It was well-received, but Boman was forced to cancel tour plans due to the emerging COVID-19 pandemic. She instead tried to focus on writing but struggled with inspiration. A jam session with drummer Nils Törnqvist in late 2021 got her creative juices flowing, and The Space Between was recorded in the span of a week with Dream On producer/musician Patrik Berger (Robyn, Lana Del Rey). Arriving on Play It Again Sam in October 2022, the album featured an appearance by Perfume Genius on the single "Feels Like a Dream."
