Seit ihrem atemberaubenden Soundtrack zu Claire Denis' Film "Trouble Everyday" vor zwei Jahren hat die wohl traurigste Band der Welt uns warten lassen. Da liegt es nun, das sechste Studioalbum. Und klingt wie es klingen muss: schwermütig, tief, weich, warm und dunkel. "Waiting For The Moon" - der Titel liest sich wie eine Gebrauchsanweisung. Ja, Mondnächte eignen sich dieser Tage wohl am besten, um sich den schaurig-schönen Songs hinzugeben.
Stuart Staples melancholieschwangere Stimme treibt auf einem Meer von Streichern, das den Sound der sechs-köpfigen Band umspült. In nahezu beklemmend langsamem Tempo setzen sich die Wellen von leicht gespielten Gitarren und besen-gestrichenen Drums schleppend in Bewegung und rollen über den Hörer hinweg.
Das schon etwas ältere, aber erst jetzt veröffentlichte "Say Goodbye To The City" steigert sich in einen verzweifelten Strudel aus Bläsern, Gesang und Streichern, mit dem sich Dickon Hinchcliff in seinen Arrangements selbst übertrifft. Mit "Sweet Memory" glätten sich die Wogen danach aber schnell, eine besänftigende, friedliche Ruhe nach dem Sturm kehrt ein und bringt das beste Stück des Albums mit. Vor dessen milder Größe sich aber weder der Titeltrack noch ein rührendes "Trying To Find A Home" verstecken müssen.
Fast schon heiter - für Tindersticks Verhältnisse versteht sich - wirkt dagegen "Sometimes It Hurts", das im Duett mit der franko-Kanadierin Lhasa de Sela entstand. Deren Stimme erinnert ein bisschen an Nico oder auch ein bisschen an Tanika Tikaram und ergänzt sich wunderbar mit Stuart Staples tiefem Organ.
"My hands round your throat, if I kill you now ..." sind die eröffnenden Worte auf "Waiting For The Moon". Tindersticks müssen dazu keine Hand anlegen, sie schaffen es streckenweise, einem die Kehle beim bloßen Hören zuzuschnüren. Oder ist das jetzt der Kloß in meinem Hals? Ich krieg Atemnot ...

Seit ihrem atemberaubenden Soundtrack zu Claire Denis' Film "Trouble Everyday" vor zwei Jahren hat die wohl traurigste Band der Welt uns warten lassen. Da liegt es nun, das sechste Studioalbum. Und klingt wie es klingen muss: schwermütig, tief, weich, warm und dunkel. "Waiting For The Moon" - der Titel liest sich wie eine Gebrauchsanweisung. Ja, Mondnächte eignen sich dieser Tage wohl am besten, um sich den schaurig-schönen Songs hinzugeben.
Stuart Staples melancholieschwangere Stimme treibt auf einem Meer von Streichern, das den Sound der sechs-köpfigen Band umspült. In nahezu beklemmend langsamem Tempo setzen sich die Wellen von leicht gespielten Gitarren und besen-gestrichenen Drums schleppend in Bewegung und rollen über den Hörer hinweg.
Das schon etwas ältere, aber erst jetzt veröffentlichte "Say Goodbye To The City" steigert sich in einen verzweifelten Strudel aus Bläsern, Gesang und Streichern, mit dem sich Dickon Hinchcliff in seinen Arrangements selbst übertrifft. Mit "Sweet Memory" glätten sich die Wogen danach aber schnell, eine besänftigende, friedliche Ruhe nach dem Sturm kehrt ein und bringt das beste Stück des Albums mit. Vor dessen milder Größe sich aber weder der Titeltrack noch ein rührendes "Trying To Find A Home" verstecken müssen.
Fast schon heiter - für Tindersticks Verhältnisse versteht sich - wirkt dagegen "Sometimes It Hurts", das im Duett mit der franko-Kanadierin Lhasa de Sela entstand. Deren Stimme erinnert ein bisschen an Nico oder auch ein bisschen an Tanika Tikaram und ergänzt sich wunderbar mit Stuart Staples tiefem Organ.
"My hands round your throat, if I kill you now ..." sind die eröffnenden Worte auf "Waiting For The Moon". Tindersticks müssen dazu keine Hand anlegen, sie schaffen es streckenweise, einem die Kehle beim bloßen Hören zuzuschnüren. Oder ist das jetzt der Kloß in meinem Hals? Ich krieg Atemnot ...
