Wie schon Jeff Beck vor ihm ist Slash ein Superstar-Gitarrist, der überhaupt nicht singen kann: Eine Situation, die ein erhebliches Problem darstellt, wenn man ein Soloalbum aufnehmen will. Nach dem Ende der Band Velvet Revolver folgte Slash der Vorlage von Santanas „Supernatural” und heuerte für jeden Track einen anderen Interpreten an. Mit „Supernatural” zielte Santana darauf ab, ein neues Publikum zu erreichen; Slash folgte derem Beispiel jedoch mit seinen alten Fans im Sinn und brachte eine Reihe verrunzelter Rocker wie Ozzy, Lemmy und Iggy ein, um die Gesangesarbeit zu leisten. Die Besetzung ist angenehm und vertraut, mit Fergie als einzige Ausnahme, die Slash in eine interessante melodische Richtung drängt.
