Blue Rose Code

Combining the illustrative songwriting of Van Morrison and John Martyn with the pop hooks of Motown, Blue Rose Code (real name Ross Wilson) is a British singer/songwriter and alternative folk artist. Born and raised in Edinburgh by his grandmother, Wilson spent much of his youth skipping school to listen to records after having discovered the work of artists such as Chet Baker, John Coltrane, and Ray Charles. He eventually began writing and recording his own songs and relocated to East London to begin a more serious pursuit of songwriting. He chose to operate under the name of Blue Rose Code (named after a concept in the David Lynch movie Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me) and began putting together song ideas that melded his various influences, resulting in his own brand of contemporary alt-folk. He put out his first release -- the Love/Whitechapel single -- in 2009, and soon afterward decided to put his creative endeavors on hold to overcome addictions and change his lifestyle. After a period of hard work, newfound sobriety, and a rediscovery of his love of performing, Ross spent the next couple of years writing and recording extensive material while performing in and around London. Signing with Derby-based indie label Reveal Records, he put out his debut EP, Julie, in 2012 followed by the Whitechapel EP in 2013. That year also saw the release of his debut full-length, North Ten. Moving over to Ronachan Songs, he put out his sophomore album, The Ballad of Peckham Rye, in 2014. The record was Wilson's most ambitious and lyrically honest creation to date, and featured guest performances from the likes of Scottish folk artist Karine Polwart and Aidan O’Rourke of folk outfit Lau. Ross' third studio effort, And Lo! The Bird Is on the Wing saw release in 2016 with Wilson embarking on a nationwide tour to promote it. He returned to Scotland to seek inspiration for his fourth album, titled Water of Leith, which was released in the fall of 2017.
