Für einen weiten Teil seiner langen Karriere in den Londoner Theatern präsentierte Händel jede Saison zwei neue bedeutende Werke. In der Saison 1736-1737 hingegen übertraf er sich selbst und  schuf drei völlig neuen Opern: Arminio, Giustino und Berenice. Während des Sommers 1736 erlitt die Opera of the Nobility schwere Rückschläge - zugunsten von Händel, der seine bisher ehrgeizigste Saison in Angriff nahm und ein Repertoire von einem Dutzend Werke, darunter acht verschiedene Opernproduktionen und vier Konzerte, in Covent Garden während der Fastenzeit (und während die Opera of the Nobility für die Öffentlichkeit geschlossen blieb) präsentierte. Armino jedoch spielte er nie und dieses Werk blieb immer eines der am seltensten präsentierten und daher wenig bekannten großen Londoner Dramen. Händel begann am 15. September 1736 mit der Komposition der Musik und schloss das Werk mit der Orchestrierung am 14. Oktober ab. Die Partitur wird hier brillant durch die beiden Kastraten Domenico Annibali in der Titelrolle und Gioacchino Conti in der Rolle seines Schwagers umgesetzt und perfekt durch die Tenöre Max Emanuel Cencic und Vince Yi ergänzt.  Aber auch die anderen Rollen glänzen mit Bravour und sollten zumindest erwähnt werden. Händels Werke holen das bestmögliche aus ihren Interpreten heraus, wovon man sich mit diesem Album ein akustisches Bild machen kann. Albumbeschreibung

Für einen weiten Teil seiner langen Karriere in den Londoner Theatern präsentierte Händel jede Saison zwei neue bedeutende Werke. In der Saison 1736-1737 hingegen übertraf er sich selbst und  schuf drei völlig neuen Opern: Arminio, Giustino und Berenice. Während des Sommers 1736 erlitt die Opera of the Nobility schwere Rückschläge - zugunsten von Händel, der seine bisher ehrgeizigste Saison in Angriff nahm und ein Repertoire von einem Dutzend Werke, darunter acht verschiedene Opernproduktionen und vier Konzerte, in Covent Garden während der Fastenzeit (und während die Opera of the Nobility für die Öffentlichkeit geschlossen blieb) präsentierte. Armino jedoch spielte er nie und dieses Werk blieb immer eines der am seltensten präsentierten und daher wenig bekannten großen Londoner Dramen. Händel begann am 15. September 1736 mit der Komposition der Musik und schloss das Werk mit der Orchestrierung am 14. Oktober ab. Die Partitur wird hier brillant durch die beiden Kastraten Domenico Annibali in der Titelrolle und Gioacchino Conti in der Rolle seines Schwagers umgesetzt und perfekt durch die Tenöre Max Emanuel Cencic und Vince Yi ergänzt.  Aber auch die anderen Rollen glänzen mit Bravour und sollten zumindest erwähnt werden. Händels Werke holen das bestmögliche aus ihren Interpreten heraus, wovon man sich mit diesem Album ein akustisches Bild machen kann. Das Ensemle Armonia Atena, geleitet von George Petrou, bietet eine hervorragende barocke Grundlage für diese flammenden Stimmen. © SM/Qobuz
