Am Höhepunkt seiner Popularität (wir sprechen dabei vom Ende der '90er Jahre) angekommen, nahm sich der italienische Sänger/Songwriter Eros Ramazzotti eine kleine Auszeit und veröffentlichte „Eros”, ein rückblickendes Album, bestehend aus fünf Hits in ihren Originalversionen, neun Hits, die speziell für diese Kompilation neu aufgenommen wurden, und zwei neuen Songs. Obwohl seine Entscheidung, die Mehrheit der gewählten Songs neu aufzunehmen, für ein Greatest-Hits-Album relativ ungewöhnlich ist, ist „Eros" gerade deswegen viel interessanter als es sonst wahrscheinlich gewesen wäre. Es gibt keine Tendenzen zum manchmal bombastischen Synthie-Pop-Stil, der Ramazzottis Songs Mitte bis Ende der '80er Jahre gekennzeichnet hatte. Anstelle dessen bedient er sich nun eines erschlankten, erwachsenen und modernen Pop/Rock, der sich durch die Produktionstechnologie der heutigen Zeit, raffinierte Streicharrangements und reinere Gitarren-Leads auszeichnet, die neues Leben in das alte Material bringen.
