Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi came in a time when Anu Malik was at his creative height and his music had just started to be noticed among creative media circles. 1993 proved to be a year of immense success for him with huge hits like Baazigar and Sir. Though, Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi was not a commercial success, it nonetheless provided a much needed fresh sound with its soothing and romantic melodies. Anu Malik has not yet been tagged as a copycat and these three albums, especially Baazigar, proved to be of building blocks for the reception and success that Malik would later find. Two songs proved to be the album highlights -- "Tere Dar Pe Sanam" and ""Badalon Mein Chhup Raha Hai"," sung by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik. The importance of this album stems from the fact that it displays early glimmers of inventiveness in Malik's music and thus paves way to much acclaimed albums that follow later.
