Crammed Discs

Crammed seems to be recognized as one of the most exciting, adventurous and boundary-breaking independent labels worldwide. Based in Brussels and resolutely cosmopolitan-minded, the label has kept reinventing itself, and has been constantly coming up with new blends, mixing
elements of rock, world music, pop and electronica ever since its inception in the early '80s, often anticipating the musical movements which bloomed during the next few decades.

Over the course of 37 years and over 350 album and 250 single releases, Crammed has discovered/developed the careers of cult artists who emerged during the 80s (Tuxedomoon, Minimal Compact, John Lurie, Hector Zazou, Aksak Maboul, the legendary Made To Measure
composers series), emblematic figures from the electronic music scene (Carl Craig, 4hero, Snooze, DJ Morpheus and his Freezone collection) and leading world music acts (from
Romanian Gypsy band Taraf de Haïdouks to Brazilian diva Bebel Gilberto by way of Zap Mama, Shantel, Balkan Beat Box and many more).

Crammed has supported and fostered the development of the Congolese tradi-modern scene (also known as "Congotronics"), with bands such as Staff Benda Bilili, Kasai Allstars and Konono N°1, who have been a source of inspiration for many cutting-edge indie bands in the US
and the UK.

For the last few years, the label has been working with a series of transnational artists, whose post-genre aesthetics coincides with the directions pursued by Crammed since its inception:
French/American artist Maïa Vidal, South African/Dutch band SKIP&DIE, Yasmine Hamdan (Lebanon), Juana Molina (Argentina), OY (Ghana/Switzerland), Belgian band Amatorski, Aquaserge and Acid Arab (France), Matias Aguato (Germany/Chile) and the recently-revived Aksak Maboul (the personal project of label boss Marc Hollander).
