The Young'uns
Folk trio the Young'uns formed in 2004 in County Durham after they stumbled across the Stockton Folk Club at a local pub during a spot of underage drinking. The young Sean Cooney, David Eagle, and Michael Hughes were so taken with what they heard they founded a band, taking their name from their experience of being the youngest people at the folk club. They released their first album, When Grandfathers Said No, in 2012, which combined cover versions and original compositions. With that release and their subsequent record, 2014's Never Forget, they began to develop what would become their signature sound, comprised of minimal instrumentation and often performed a cappella.
However, it was 2015 that would prove a banner year for the band. That year they released their third studio album, Another Man's Ground, and were subsequently presented with the Best Live Act gong at the Spiral awards, and the Best Group trophy at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. The band repeated the latter success in 2016, collecting their award at the Royal Albert Hall. As the Young'uns garnered accolades, they also secured spots at Glastonbury Festival and Cambridge Folk Festival. In 2017, the trio released Strangers, a record that broached both contemporary and historical issues.
