Swedish rock band Royal Republic hail from Malmö and were formed in late 2007 by Adam Grahn (lead vocals/guitar), Hannes Irengård (guitar), Jonas Almén (bass), and Per Andreasson (drums), who play an energetic, rock & roll-inspired garage rock in the vein of Mando Diao and the Hives. The first three singles of their 2010 debut album, We Are the Royal, made it to number one on the "most wanted" list of Swedish radio station Bandit Rock, while their single "Tommy-Gun" also reached number one on the MTV Rock charts. Their 2012 follow-up, Save the Nation, was even more successful, charting at number 24 in Sweden and at number 14 in Germany. The band toured throughout Europe and Australia and played at the huge Rock am Ring and Rock im Park festivals. For the 2014 compilation Royal Republic & the Nosebreakers, they re-recorded some of their early tracks in an acoustic-country vein. They returned to a rock sound for 2016's Weekend Man, but let some of their country influences bleed through. 2019's Club Majesty was an '80s pastiche, complete with a glammed-up, VHS-shot music video for lead single "Anna-Leigh." Both albums hit the German Top 20. ~ Christian Genzel & John D. Buchanan
