Max Jury

An Iowa-bred singer/songwriter with a classic Americana and vintage country-rock streak, Max Jury began building an international audience with a series of European tours in advance of his 2016 self-titled debut via London indie Marathon Artists. A limited-edition singles series continued to bolster his reputation, as did his 2018 acoustic EP Notes from California. Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, Jury grew up on a diet of classic country, rock, and soul until he discovered Neil Young in his early teens. Delving deeper into the world of country, Jury sounded out Gram Parsons, the Byrds, and Willie Nelson -- as well as contemporary acts such as Wilco -- as inspiration for his newfound songwriting. Landing a scholarship at the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, Jury dropped out after a year and moved back to Des Moines. Drawing on his blue-collar job for inspiration, Jury started writing from the heart, and gigging and playing piano for local bands. His first release, the Something in the Air EP, was released in 2014 after signing with Marathon Artists and touring Europe and the U.S. He headed to New York to start recording with producer Inflo at the legendary Electric Lady Studios. After a brief session in New York, Jury headed to Jackson, North Carolina and set up with bassist Stacy TK to finish recording what would become his debut album. Preceded in early 2016 by the gospel-influenced single "Numb," the self-titled album was released in June of that year. Following the 2017 U.K. release of a limited-edition 7" cover songs series called Under the Covers, Jury returned in 2018 with a four-song EP of his own acoustic demos called Notes from California.
