Caligula's Horse

Caligula's Horse is a hard-hitting, shape-shifting Aussie progressive metal/alt-rock unit based out of Brisbane. The group found mainstream success with the release of 2015's Bloom, which reached number 16 on the ARIA Chart and topped multiple metal magazines' and websites' year-end lists. They continued to flash their technical prowess and songwriting skills on subsequent efforts like Rise Radiant (2020) and Charcoal Grace (2024), cementing their esteemed status within the progressive metal and rock communities. Caligula's Horse was founded in 2011 and consists of vocalist Jim Grey, lead guitarist Sam Vallen, guitarist Adrian Goleby, bassist/vocalist Dave Couper, and drummer Josh Griffin. Taking a cue from bands like Coheed and Cambria, Haken, Dream Theater, and Circus Maximus, the band's full-length debut, Moments from Ephemeral City, paired technical acumen with intelligent songwriting. Their well-received sophomore effort, 2013's conceptual The Tide, the Thief & River's End, was preceded by an EP, Colossus. In 2015, Caligula's Horse released their breakthrough LP, the Inside Out Music-issued Bloom, which appeared on multiple Australian charts and made a strong showing overseas. In Contact arrived two years later, an assured set of songs rooted in themes of love, art, and resistance. 2020's Rise Radiant saw the band deliver a potent and virtuosic exploration of legacy, survival, and self-belief. Meanwhile, 2024's Charcoal Grace plumbed the emotional depths of the COVID-19 pandemic, searching for catharsis amidst the social and political turmoil it awoke.
