Amaranthe

An acclaimed Swedish/Danish metal ensemble, Amaranthe traffics in multiple heavy metal subgenres, from punishing death and hardcore to lush symphonic, power, and pop-leaning electronic metal. Emerging in 2009, they found mainstream success in 2013 with the release of their sophomore effort, The Nexus, which reached the top ten in Sweden and Finland. They continued to refine their sound on subsequent outings like Maximalism (2016), Helix (2020), and Manifest (2020), with their skill and artistry always at the forefront. The band's seventh long-player, The Catalyst, is slated for release in 2024. Founded in 2008 in Gothenburg by Olof Mörck (Dragonland, Nightrage) and Joacim "Jake E" Lundberg (Dreamland, Dream Evil), the project was initialized under the name Avalanche. Forced to change due to legal issues, the band assumed the Amaranthe moniker in 2009. With Elize Ryd (Kamelot) and Jake E handling most of the soaring, clean vocals and Andreas Solveström (Cipher System) taking care of the harsher, throatier vocal parts, Amaranthe released their debut self-titled album in 2011, which reached number 35 on the Swedish charts. In 2013, the group returned with The Nexus, which saw chart success in multiple countries, even appearing on the U.S. Heatseekers chart. It would be the last outing for harsh vocalist Andy Solveström, who left the fold shortly after its release. Further reinforcing their modern, more mainstream approach to metal, 2014's Massive Addictive included the international hit single "Drop Dead Cynical" and introduced new vocalist Henrik Englund, while 2016's Grammis-nominated Maximalism incorporated more elements of metal, pop, and dance music to the band's oeuvre. Longtime clean vocalist Jake E departed in 2016 and was replaced by Nils Molin of Dynazty, who made his studio debut on 2018's Helix, the band's last album for Spinefarm. Amaranthe inked a deal with Nuclear Blast ahead of the release of 2020's bombastic and star-studded Manifest, which featured guest appearances from Noora Louhimo (Battle Beast), Perttu Kivilaakso (Apocalyptica), Elias Holmlid (Dragonland), and Heidi Shepherd (Butcher Babies). In 2023, the band issued the single "Damnation Flame," introducing a new harsh vocalist, Mikael Sehlin. The song is set to appear on the band's seventh full-length effort, The Catalyst, in 2024.
