Il pianeta non gode di ottima salute, gli estremisti alzano il tiro, la pandemia è a pieno regime e il razzismo non è da meno: la situazione è molto cupa e Jeremy Ivey la mette in scena nel suo secondo album, intitolato Waiting Out the Storm. Soprattutto sul singolo Someone Else’s Problem, che ha scritto insieme alla moglie Margo Price, figura chiave dell’Americana di oggi, che ha anche prodotto il disco. Dopo un’onestissima prima opera del 2019, The Dream and the Dreamer, il cantautore di Nashville continua ad eccellere nella sua arte della narrazione, con lo stesso acume e precisione di sempre. Tra folk rock (con accenti molto, molto in stile Dylan - ovviamente la sua più grande influenza), rock urbano (il suo fraseggio a volte ricorda Lou Reed, o Kevin Morby) e qualche tocco country, in questo secondo album Ivey evita di ancorarsi eccessivamente al passato. È grazie al suo suono classico, così come le sue melodie, che Waiting Out the Storm diventa rapidamente un album senza tempo. E lo diventa anche di più quando il nostro uomo si infuria, e le sue mani si agitano ritmicamente come sull’incredibile Hands Down In Your Pockets.
