Rhiannon Giddens, nome gaelico, padre bianco, madre nera, con il suo heritage native-american incarna il "melting pot" delle culture nordamericane. La soprano, che preferisce le voci impenetrabili del folk, soul, blues e bluegrass piuttosto che l'opera, Giddens pubblica il suo terzo lavoro da solista. Scoperta dai fratelli Coen (con Inside Llewyn Devis affiancata a Elvis Costello), invitata da T-Bone Burnett, la ex cantante dei Carolina Chocolate Drops ha già pubblicato due album da solista amati dalla critica, ed un primo lavoro con le Native Daughters (assieme a Leyla McCalla, Allison Russell e Amysthyst Kiah), questa artista 40enne ha già percorso molta strada. In collaborazione con il polistrumentista Francesco Turrisi, con l’eccellente produzione di Joe Henry in soli 5 giorni a Dublino, There Is No Other comprende composizioni originali e reinterpretazioni tradizionali, passando per la musica araba, celtica e l'influenza italiana. Troviamo quindi I’m Gonna Write Me A Letter di Ola Belle Reed, Brown Baby dell'attivista Oscar Brown Jr, fino alla partenopea Pizzica di San Vito o l'aria Black Swan di Menotti.
