All’alba degli anni ’70, David Bowie non è l’unico a condurre il rock sui sentieri della perdizione del glam. Con i Roxy Music, il genere prende addirittura una direzione inedita e soprattutto ancora più stramba. D’altronde, non avrebbe potuto essere altrimenti visto e considerato l’atipico cast della band britannica guidata da Bryan Ferry, sorta di neo-dandy e finto crooner. I Roxy riuniscono sin dall’inizio una bella sfilza di freak avidi di sperimentazioni di ogni genere e di avanguardia a gogo.
Nel 1972, il primo album eponimo di questa gang chic e battona al tempo stesso è totalmente inclassificabile. Brian Eno preme tutti i tasti dei sintetizzatori. Andy Mackay suona il sax come un pazzo. E Phil Manzanera maltratta le chitarre come un serial killer intento a fare a pezzi la sua vittima! Per festeggiare i 45 anni dall’arrivo di quest’UFO sul pianeta Terra, oltre alla debita rimasterizzazione del disco originale c’è una BBC Session a dir poco gustosa. Degli abiti di paillettes perfetti per riscoprire questo stridente numero di rock’n’roll adulterato.
