È il produttore Giles Martin, il figlio del mitico George Martin, all’origine della colonna sonora di questo film che racconta l’avvento– per non dire l’incoronazione– di Elton John nel mondo della musica. In altri termini, un certo profumo retró di questo biopic e la sua colonna sonora funzionano a meraviglia, soprattutto quando sappiamo che Giles Martin era tra i primi a provocare quella frenesia pop che agitava l’Inghilterra degli anni ’60 e ’70. I suoi arrangiamenti eleganti e dinamici sono certamente molto più vicini ai suoni dell’epoca, ma in alcune trame vi è una certa ventata di freschezza che potremmo definire «postmoderna».
Il disco non propone nessuna musica strumentale tratta dal film, ma soltanto i successi della star ripresi da Taron Egerton, l’attore che lo interpreta sullo schermo. Senza dubbio Ergeton affascina grazie alle sue abilità vocali, ma non bisogna dimenticare la presenza di altri attori in alcune canzoni: I Want Love è interpretata da Kit Connor, Gemma Jones, Bryce Dallas Howard e Steven Mackintosh, mentre The Bitch is Back, Don’t Go Breaking My Heart e Goodbye yellow brickroad sono duetti con, rispettivamente, Sebastian Rich, Rachel Muldoon e Jamie Bell (che cerca di interpretare Bernie Taupin, il paroliere prediletto di Elton John). Ma il pezzo forte di questa colonna sonora è senz’altro il delirio schizofrenico che costituisce la canzone in chiusura al disco perché si tratta di una cover di (I’m Gonna) love me again interpretata da Taron Egerton in duetto con… lo stesso Elton John. © Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz

È il produttore Giles Martin, il figlio del mitico George Martin, all’origine della colonna sonora di questo film che racconta l’avvento– per non dire l’incoronazione– di Elton John nel mondo della musica. In altri termini, un certo profumo retró di questo biopic e la sua colonna sonora funzionano a meraviglia, soprattutto quando sappiamo che Giles Martin era tra i primi a provocare quella frenesia pop che agitava l’Inghilterra degli anni ’60 e ’70. I suoi arrangiamenti eleganti e dinamici sono certamente molto più vicini ai suoni dell’epoca, ma in alcune trame vi è una certa ventata di freschezza che potremmo definire «postmoderna».
Il disco non propone nessuna musica strumentale tratta dal film, ma soltanto i successi della star ripresi da Taron Egerton, l’attore che lo interpreta sullo schermo. Senza dubbio Ergeton affascina grazie alle sue abilità vocali, ma non bisogna dimenticare la presenza di altri attori in alcune canzoni: I Want Love è interpretata da Kit Connor, Gemma Jones, Bryce Dallas Howard e Steven Mackintosh, mentre The Bitch is Back, Don’t Go Breaking My Heart e Goodbye yellow brickroad sono duetti con, rispettivamente, Sebastian Rich, Rachel Muldoon e Jamie Bell (che cerca di interpretare Bernie Taupin, il paroliere prediletto di Elton John). Ma il pezzo forte di questa colonna sonora è senz’altro il delirio schizofrenico che costituisce la canzone in chiusura al disco perché si tratta di una cover di (I’m Gonna) love me again interpretata da Taron Egerton in duetto con… lo stesso Elton John. © Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
