L’etichetta Blue Note ha accolto, in passato, così tanti musicisti d’avanguardia, geniali e rivoluzionari, che l’arrivo di Bill Frisell nella casa fondata nel 1939 da Alfred Lion e Max Margulis non dovrebbe sorprendere più di tanto. A 68 anni, il chitarrista americano resta non solo il più appassionante della sua generazione, ma senza dubbio uno dei più innovativi e influenti. Al punto che da parecchi anni Frisell ha sentito il bisogno naturale di abbattere le frontiere stilistiche che lo relegavano allo scaffale jazz. Il suo repertorio ora mescola tradizione jazz e folk, permettendosi incursioni nel country e anche nel rock. Questo primo album Blue Note non potrebbe rappresentare meglio l’essenza inafferrabile di Frisell, che si lascia portare dagli incontri e dalle ispirazioni. Con il suo vecchio amico, il violoncellista Hank Roberts (si frequentano fin dai tempi della Berklee School of Music di Boston nel 1975!), la cantante Petra Haden, figlia di quel Charlie con cui collabora dall’inizio degli anni 2000, e il chitarrista, bassista e cantante Luke Bergman, Bill Frisell ha concepito Harmony come un assemblaggio unico di jazz folk da camera, supportato da armonie vocali.
