E=MC2, che è una replica del suo predecessore quasi sotto ogni aspetto, ruota tutto intorno al sound, al ritmo e alla texture e non tanto intorno alla canzone, il che significa che i fattori di attrazione melodica e del canto sono spinti sul fondo. Siccome la voce da multiottavi di Carey è sempre stata la sua carta vincente, questo lavoro risulta un po' strano, ma non solo rende Mariah moderna, ma camuffa anche la leggera discesa della sua estensione. A volte questo tipo di produzione si sposa a una canzone orecchiabile e completamente matura, come "I'm That Chick", una fetta patinata della disco Off the Wall che è quasi vertiginosa nella sua energia, mentre "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" ha una leggerezza che manca tanto a E=MC2.
