Pareva aver posto la parola “fine” al gruppo che ha fatto conoscere in tutto il mondo le sue notevoli doti vocali, Mr. Hucknall, ma come sempre piu’ spesso succede nel music business, e dopo soli due anni dal suo album solista “American soul” , ecco l’undicesimo album dei Simply Red, con il quale “Mick il rosso” pare avere ritrovato in parte l’ispirazione perduta. Il sound e’ il marchio di fabbrica che ha caratterizzato la carriera del gruppo, un pop-soul-funky che aveva visto i Simply Red , i Level 42 e alcune altre band conquistare i successi maggiori durante gli anni ’80 e parte dei ’90. Primo assaggio dell’album e’ il brano ballabile “Shine on”, molto estivo e radiofonico, anche se le tracce migliori le troviamo nella intensa “Dad”, dedicata al padre scomparso, nella sognante “The ghost of love”, e nella seconda parte dell’album dove finalmente esce nuovamente il groove e la carica funky della band dei tempi migliori, con le trascinanti “Tight tones” e “WORU”.
