The classiest rocker in the country returns once again…

A singer out of time and in a class of his own, Richard Hawley brings his Roy Orbison croon deeper into the 21st Century… Since 2000, the former Pulp guitarist has built up a résumé of eight enchanting solo discs. These records are all furnished with sumptuous instrumentation and garnished with Hawley's breathtaking voice: the love-child of Scott Walker and Morrissey. Yet behind the glamorous sets, the posturing costumes, and the sixties flair, King Richard succeeds through the strength of his songwriting. Hawley understands the winning combination of baritone guitar, proportioned strings, and an ever-young voice; evidenced throughout his new effort, Hollow Meadows. This, his eighth record, will be released on the 11th September (available, through Qobuz, in Hi-Res 24 bit quality), and the album is a notable addition to Hawley's canon – rocking slightly harder in places! The artist remains in pursuit of the perfect song, a very noble mission indeed… One remarks, too, on the presence of two famous Sheffield friends on Hollow Meadows: Jarvis Cocker of Pulp, and Rebecca Taylor of Slow Club.
