The return of the vintage and soul Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens…

During the six years that have passed since the release of their last album What Have You Done, My Brother? Naomi Shelton and her Gospel Queens have completed numerous tours across the four corners of the earth, playing in the most prestigious festivals worldwide: Monterey, Montréal, Ottawa, etc. These years played a major role in creating their new album, Cold World, which came out on the 29th July. It was recorded with Gabriel « Bosco Mann » Roth in the Daptone, House of Soul studio. Carried by Shelton’s husky and powerful voice, the 2014 album's dozen songs navigate between gospel and soul, creating their own unique niche that evokes the most inspiring moments of the Staple Singers or Curtis Mayfield. The backing band (whose members' ages range from just 17 all the way to 82!) is conducted by Brother Cliff Driver, who has notably worked with Baby Washington, Little Willlie John, King Curtis, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson and even Solomon Burke. Fred Thomas, who spent the best part of his career playing with James Brown, is on bass, whilst Jimmy Hill, who collaborated with Wilson Pickett at the end of the 60s, plays the organ. Even the young Max Schrager is on the guitar for two tracks. Together, all these gifted musicians create a vintage gospel and soul album, which is truly timeless.
