On their previous album Wilder Mind, Mumford & Sons had left their soft banjo sounds and bright folk behind. But on this Paul Epworth production, the London band have gone back to their true love.

Delta is a delicate Pop-Rock blend a la Coldplay, rich with countless Folk, Country and Bluegrass influences. The four members have once again managed to create a modern alloy of traditional-sounding contemporary instruments with an absolutely brilliant result! Recorded in Church Studio in London, it’s a tender album with a fair amount of focus on reflection. Delta consists of rich and varied nuances and more intimate lyrics than ever before that pierce the heart and bring out the tears with each line, just as on The Wild and October Skies. Examining the title closely, Delta is the fourth letter of the NATO phonetic alphabet and Mumford & Sons use four D words for their thematic basis: Death, Divorce, Drugs and Depression. This thematic basis confers intensity to this fourth studio album. Mumford & Sons have wandered out of their comfort zone. With a 360° vision, the quartet have taken inspiration from various electro influences on this release, something which is evident on the ethereal Picture You as well as the dark and disturbing Darkness Visible. These fourteen tracks make for some quite thorough introspection and show clearly that the British artists have worked hard to defend their reputation!
