Wencke Myhre
Wencke Myhre (born 15 February 1947 in Oslo-Kjelsås) is a pop singer, entertainer, and actor from Norway. From the 1960s onwards, she enjoyed success with songs in Norwegian, German, Swedish, Danish, and English. Born Wenche Synnøve Myhre, she won the Chat Noir talent competition in 1960, which led to a recording contract at the age of 13. In the early phase of her career, she initially enjoyed success as a young actor, appearing on German television for the first time in 1964. The single "Hey, do you already know my Peter?" was released that same year. During this time, Wencke Myhre landed two number-one hits on the singles charts in her native Norway with "Gi meg en cowboy til mann" (1963) and "La meg være ung" (1964). However, her career as a pop singer in Germany also took off. The singles "Beiß nicht gleich in jeden Apfel" (1966) and "Komm allein" (1967) became top 10 hits in Germany. In 1968, Wencke Myhre represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Ein Hoch der Liebe". She came 6th in the contest and the single made it into the top 20 in Germany, helping her to become one of the most popular teen idols in Germany. In 1969, Wencke Myhre achieved another top 10 hit in Germany with "Er steht im Tor". Her fame in the country earned her her own television show in 1974. With the German cover version of the Bonnie Tyler hit "It's a heartache", she scored another hit in 1978. "Laß mein Knie, Joe" climbed to number 16 in Germany. After that, the artist withdrew from the stage and devoted more time to her private life. Together with other well-known Scandinavian stars such as Gitte Hænning and Siw Malmkvist, she went on tour through Germany in 2005 with the program Gitte, Wencke, Siw - Die Show. A new studio album, Eingeliebt - ausgeliebt, was released in 2010. As an ambassador for her country, Wencke Myhre received the Federal Cross of Merit in fall 2021. February 2024 saw the release of the compilation Gute Jahre - Das Beste und viel mehr... featuring the greatest hits from her 60-plus year stage career.
