Stella Donnelly

Based out of Perth, Australia, singer/songwriter Stella Donnelly's controlled vocals and lightly arranged indie pop songs often hold sharper sentiments, addressing sexism, misogyny, sexual assault, and disparity of wealth and power. After self-releasing a spare EP in 2017, she signed to Secretly Canadian and returned with her debut full-length, Beware of the Dogs, in 2019. She came back in 2022 with sophomore album Flood. Stella Donnelly got her start playing in other people's bands, as a member of indie band Bells Rapids as well as playing in various cover bands. In 2017, she recorded her first set of original songs, the spare, six-song Thrush Metal. The dimly lit acoustic EP found Donnelly's voice emerging in confident and often biting songs of social commentary. The EP was first self-released on CD, and later a number of cassette pressings were manufactured and quickly sold out as buzz about the songwriter grew. She soon signed on with American indie label Secretly Canadian, which reissued Thrush Metal and made plans to work towards a debut album. After touring nonstop for many months, Donnelly completed work on that album, Beware of the Dogs, which was a far more polished production than her EP. The album was released in March of 2019, and more touring followed. After the release of the album, Donnelly moved around Australia extensively, with her touring and other music-making momentum slowed by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the time following Beware of the Dogs, Donnelly wrote more than 40 new songs, of which she chose 11 for her sophomore album, Flood. Flood was released in August of 2022, again with Secretly Canadian.
