Ian Fountain
British pianist Ian Fountain began his music education at New College, Oxford, and continued his studies at Winchester College and the Royal Northern College of Music, where his teacher was Sulamita Aronovsky. In 1989, Fountain won the Arthur Rubinstein Piano Masters Competition in Tel Aviv at age 19. He has toured internationally, and performed with many leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the Hallé Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and many others. His repertoire includes more than 60 piano concertos, and he has also appeared in concert as a conductor, often with the Israel Chamber Orchestra. Fountain is a professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and he has edited Beethoven’s piano sonatas and variations for Henle Verlag, Munich. He has recorded for Haenssler, EMI, Chandos, Sony Classical, Es-Dur, and several other labels.
