Enrico Dindo

Cellist Enrico Dindo records both as a soloist and as head of his chamber orchestra, I Solisti di Pavia. He has a large repertory running from Bach to Astor Piazzolla. Dindo was born in Turin on March 16, 1965. His family was musical, and he took up the cello at age six. Dindo attended the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Turin, and he had further instruction from Egidio Roveda and Antonio Janigro. In 1987, he became the principal cello soloist with the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, remaining in that post until 1998. Dindo's solo career was kindled by a first prize at the 1997 Mstislav Rostropovich Competition in Paris. In December of 2001, he formed I Solisti di Pavia; as of the early 2020s, he remained the ensemble's leader, and he made several albums with the group. His solo debut came in 2012 with a recording of Shostakovich's two cello concertos featuring the Danish National Symphony Orchestra under conductor Gianandrea Noseda. Dindo has appeared widely in Italy, including several solo slots with the Filarmonica della Scala in Milan. His long list of appearances abroad includes those with the BBC Philharmonic, the State Orchestra of São Paulo in Brazil, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Dindo has been a favorite at festivals, including the Budapest Spring Festival, the Settimane Musicali of Stresa, and the White Nights Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia. His solo recital career includes a cycle of Bach's Suites for solo cello, performed at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan in 2014. That year, he was named the principal conductor of the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra in Zagreb. Dindo has recorded for Chandos, Naxos, Velut Luna, and Dynamic, where in 2023, he released a recording of Dvořák's Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104. He has taught at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, the Pavia Cello Academy, the Tibor Varga Academy of Sion, and the Garda Lake International Music Master Summer Courses.
