Disiz

Disiz (formerly Disiz la Peste) is the stage name of French rapper Sérigne M'Baye Gueye. Born in the city of Amiens on March 22, 1978, he grew up in the Épinettes neighborhood of Évry and developed a taste for hip-hop from a very young age. Inspired by French-speaking rap acts like NTM and IAM, he made his debut as part of the group Rimeurs À Gages and was later discovered by fellow rapper JoeyStarr thanks to his maxi-single" Bête de bombe (ce que les gens veulent entendre)." This prompted the Saint-Denis MC to invite Disiz to feature on the soundtrack of the film Taxi 2 alongside the One Shot collective. Le Poisson Rouge, his studio debut, arrived in 2000 and reached Number 5 in France thanks to the success of the single "J'pète les plombs." In the following years, Disiz formed the Évry-based hip-hop group Fuck Dat, made his acting debut, and continued to expand his catalog with critically acclaimed titles like Jeu de société (2003), Itinéraire d'un enfant bronzé (2004), and Les histoires extra-ordinaires d'un jeune de banlieue (2006), which won Best Rap Album at the Victoires de la Musique Awards. After teasing his retirement from the rap game in 2009 with Disiz the End (2009), he returned with the more rock-oriented Dans le Ventre du Crocodile in 2010, released under the pseudonym Disiz Peter Punk. Hailed by many as a return to form, his seventh full-length Lucide appeared in 2012 and was followed by Extra-Lucide (2012), Transe-Lucide (2013), Rap Machine (2015), Pacifique (2017), and Disizilla (2018). In 2022, Disiz's career reached an all-time high after his album L'Amour peaked at Number 5 on the French charts.
