Chang Yu-Shen

Tom Yusheng Chang, known professionally as Chang Yu-sheng is a renowned Chinese singer and songwriter who has made an indelible mark on the music industry with his exceptional talent and unique vocal style. Born on June 7, 1966, in Magong, Penghu, Taiwan, Chang began his musical journey at a young age, displaying a natural aptitude for singing and performing. Early in his career, Chang Yu-sheng's incredible vocal range and emotive delivery garnered attention, and he quickly gained recognition as a rising star in the Chinese music scene. In 1988, he released his debut album, Always Missing You. This breakthrough album was a chart-topping success, catapulting Chang Yu-sheng to stardom. Nominated for the Best New Artist award for his second album Miss Me (1989), Chang began to write his own music, with his early efforts attaining only limited commercial success. Nonetheless, Chang continued to release another six albums and two EPs between 1992 and 1997, including Take Me to the Moon (1992), The Sea (1992) and Still Friends (1995) as well as becoming a producer and mentor to Taiwanese singer A-Mei during her successful debut. Chang passed away after injuries sustained from a car accident on October 20, 1997. In 1998, he was posthumously awarded the Album of the Year award for his final album Duplicity (1997) at the 9th Golden Melody Awards and honoured with a Special Contribution Award at the 2017 ceremony. In 2023, Chang's 1992 single The Sea re-emerged on the Singaporean charts, peaking at number 17.
