This is a Victor Manuelle compilation that makes little sense, since all of his productions are still available, and there are countless other productions that are far more serviceable that anything this can offer. Still, the talents of this sonero can be appreciated in their own right in their individual recordings. © José A. Estévez, Jr. /TiVo

A great collection of Santa Rosa, featuring many of his latter-'90s hits, focusing on his career after the dismissal of his traveling band. The always-enjoyable Santa Rosa merits close scrutiny as far as his entire discography is concerned. Thanks to this collection, it helps to bring the singer to newer ears, as he has always shown considerable care and zeal in his productions. This is recommended for Santa Rosa starters. © José A. This superlative live retrospective of Sonora Ponceña's extensive career features former vocalists Luigi Texidor, Miguelito Ortiz, Yolanda Rivera, Mannix Martínez, and special guests Andy Montañez, Ismael Miranda, Cano Estremera, Omar Ledée (Toñito Ledée's son), and Rafi Santana. Virtually every tune that the orchestra is known for is superbly re-created . Andy Montañez is magnificent in "Ahora Sí" and Ismael Miranda is sterling in "Tu y Yo." Cano Estremera has a showstopping performance with "Boranda" (watch for Papo Lucca's participation as he makes the Tito Puente Auditorium audience sing with him). Incredibly, the band seems ageless as they continue to establish themselves as one of the most important salsa bands in Puerto Rican musical history. Pianist Papo Lucca remains peerless. © José A.
