Kenneth Fuchs

American composer Kenneth Fuchs has written in a wide variety of genres, including orchestral, concerto, band, musical theater, choral, and chamber music. He was educated at the University of Miami and at the Juilliard School where his teachers included Milton Babbitt, David Diamond, and Vincent Persichetti. His music is widely performed in the United States, Europe, and Asia. JoAnn Falletta and the London Symphony Orchestra have recorded two discs of his music for Naxos, one of which was nominated for two Grammy Awards. Other recordings include three of his string quartets performed by the American String Quartet. Fuchs wrote three chamber musicals with Lanford Wilson: A Betrothal, Brontosaurus, and The Great Nebula in Orion, which were performed at New York's Circle Repertory Company. He has also had an active career as an educator and university administrator, with appointments at the Juilliard School, the North Carolina School of the Arts, the Manhattan School of Music, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Connecticut, where he is professor of composition.
