Dave Porter

Dave Porter is an American composer and producer for film and television, most widely known for his work on Breaking Bad and its spin-off show, Better Call Saul. He developed an interest in music at an early age and received piano lessons and classical training at the age of five. He went on to study music composition at Sarah Lawrence College in Westchester County, New York. Shortly after graduation, Porter made his move into professional composition when he began working as an assistant at Philip Glass' studio in New York City. He eventually moved into creating music for the screen and went on to compose for the 2008 documentary film Bigger, Stronger, Faster, the 2012 horror feature Smiley, and ABC's 2013 drama series Red Widow. He worked on the acclaimed drama Breaking Bad for AMC from 2008 to 2013, with his score becoming widely revered alongside the story itself. Selected cues from his work on the show demonstrated his affinity for blurring the lines between music and sound design and were released over two separate album volumes in 2012 and 2013, winning him the ASCAP Composer's Choice Award for Best Television Composer of the Year in 2013. That same year saw the producer begin working on NBC's crime thriller The Blacklist. Dave went on to write music for Breaking Bad's prequel series, Better Call Saul which arrived in early 2015. In 2017 he provided the score for James Franco's comedy movie, The Disaster Artist.
