Calva Louise

Taking inspiration from British and American bands, as well as Latin rock, Manchester-based grunge/punk trio Calva Louise are loud and brash but don't forgo catchy hooks. Emerging in 2017, the group issued their debut album, Rhinoceros, in 2019, followed by the ambitious concept album Euphoric in 2021. Venezuelan vocalist Jess Allanic, bassist Alizon Taho, and drummer Ben Parker moved from different corners of the world to London and formed the band. After countless rehearsals in the studios at iconic London venue The Roundhouse and playing other gigs throughout the city, the trio issued two independent EPs, followed by a pair of singles through the American label FRKST. That caught the attention of Modern Sky Records, which released their debut album, Rhinoceros, in February 2019. A single, "Belicoso," followed that August, ahead of the arrival of the EP Interlude for the Borderline Unsettled. 2020 saw the release of the singles "Trial" and "Nine Lives," the latter of which was a collaboration with Blackpool-based rockers Strange Bones. Calva Louise enlisted Strange Bones frontman Bobby Bentham to produce their sophomore long-player, the sci-fi and graphic novel-influenced concept LP Euphoric, which was released in 2021.
